Inside our mobile clinic
When your pet needs surgery there are many “optional” surgical care services that can be provided for your pet to make it more comfortable and ensure the highest level of safety we can provide. Phone shopped services offer the basic service requested at the lowest possible fee. Many clients do not understand the seriousness of veterinary surgery. We feel it is important to minimize all risks involved for the safety of the pet. The sad fact is that clients must pay for the level of care they desire for their pet.
In our effort to offer the highest quality of pet health care for our clients, we have packaged several optional services we feel are important and suggest you request they be performed at the same time for the safety and comfort of him/her. The request for these additional services will allow us to practice the highest level of quality veterinary care available today.
Optional Services Package
Presurgical Laboratory Screening – This blood analysis provides us with more in-depth information on the health status of your pet before surgery. These are the same blood tests routinely performed in human medicine.
Electrocardiogram (EKG)Screening – A tracing of the heart’s electrical activity provides an in-depth look at your pet’s heart. Many heart conditions cannot be detected with the stethoscope.
Teeth Scaling, Polishing and Fluoride Application – It is more cost-effective to perform any needed dental prophy procedures when the pet is already sedated for another procedure. You save the cost of sedation for the dental prophy since the pet is already sedated. A clean mouth decreases the chances of infection after surgery.
Additional Pain Medication Injection At the Time of Dismissal – New studies show that pets do much better when given a new pain medication by injection at the time of dismissal. This injection will provide them with an additional 72 hours of pain relief after dismissal from the hospital. In addition to being much more humane, pain relief is shown to minimize immunity suppression (which can lead to post-surgical infection), shortens wound healing time, and hastens return of appetite. Oral medications are also available, but the convenience of the long-acting injection is easier for most clients.
Other optional procedures that should be considered if needed for your pet include the following:
- Dewclaw Removal
- Wart and Skin Growth Removal
- Radiographs
- Toenail Cautery
- Ear Cleaning
All of these procedures can be done at less cost than if needed on an individual basis since your pet is already sedated, which would save you the additional office visit and sedation fees.
